Vegetable, Vegetable or Vegetable . . .

"We're looking for new contestants to take part in the show's phone-in quiz, 'Vegetable, Vegetable or Vegetable!'"

Yes, folks, it's the BBC's Ouch! Disability Podcast. The first podcast was by most estimates a howling success. But you should judge for yourself. There are instructions for downloading the podcast here -- and also a way to download a written transcript.

"The mockery of cliches starts with the chipper title song," says the post on Temple U's Disabilitie Studies Blog:

You're so special we've made a podcast for you!
Disabled people can have fun too
They can do anything we can do
Say thank you to the BBC
Dry your eyes and listen in to people just like you!
Confined to a website....the Ouch! Podcast!

Matt Fraser, creator and star of Thalidomide: The Musical, and one of the show's hosts, says he hopes the Ouch! podcast "is something that will spread... like a disease."

But, then, the whole Ouch! experience is like that.

Probably British humor isn't for everyone. There are probably those of you out there who don't like Monty Python and the Holy Grail (but don't forget that Monty Python's the group who gave Not Dead Yet its name!)

From the Ouch! podcast site . . .

If you've already listened to our fabulous podcast, you'll have heard the first run of our highly politically incorrect quiz Vegetable, Vegetable or Vegetable, in which a lucky Ouch! reader on the end of the phone challenges presenters Mat Fraser and Liz Carr to guess their impairment.

We're now looking for future contestants to take part in the phone-in quiz. If you think you've got what it takes, send an email to us at ouch@bbc.co.uk, telling us a little about yourself. Most important of all, include your phone number so that we can give you a call!

And with today's cheap transAtlantic phone rates, even folks in the U.S. -- we THINK -- would be allowed to play "Vegetable, Vegetable or Vegetable."
