Driver hits blind woman, kills guide dog
Danielle Iredale of Carboro, NC, was hit by a drunk driver while she stood at a bus stop with her guide dog Inka. The driver, Stephen Coffee, is being held by police.
Police reports said a 1993 white four-door Nissan Altima traveling west on BPW Club Road veered into the opposite lane, crossed the far side bicycle lane, jumped the curb and headed onto the sidewalk before striking Iredale and her German shepherd, Inka.Inka was found more than 50 feet from where she was hit, police said.
Iredale is a recent anthropology graduate from UNC-Chapel Hill. Inka was her first guide dog.
