TN activists encamp in Gov's office protesting nursing home move

NASHVILLE, JUNE 24, 2005-- Disability activists from across Tennessee converged on Gov. Phil Bredesen's office Monday to protest the Governor's stated plan to remove ventilator-using crips from the state's TennCare Medicaid program -- which is now providing services for them in their homes -- and put them into nursing homes. The activists spent the night and "will stay until real progress is met," says the Memphis Center for Independent Living's Randy Alexander. On Friday they were into their fifth day of the takeover of the governor's office.
